"Emergence" April A to Z Blog Challenge

E is for Emerging

As she disembarked from the plane, Abby felt a palpable difference.  Though going through customs and immigration was uncomfortable and a little frightening, as she exited the doors of the airport and stepped into her new country, she felt she had passed through the portal between hell and heaven.

Awaking the next morning, to a beautiful sunny day, in a country where she was sure she would never be found, she felt that she could actually feel a difference in the air filling her lungs. Not once did she look over her shoulder. Only 5 people in the world knew where she was. A beautiful land with no addresses. Even her eventual immigration papers would list nothing but the closest intersection. The closest thing to an address that the US State Department had, was her email address. She was free ...finally.

In the coming hours and days, she emerged from her self imposed protective cocoon and blossomed with a perpetual smile and a kind word for everyone she met on the street.  She knew that coming here was the right thing to do, and that it was responsible for the better part of her emergence. But she also couldn’t deny, that Trent had a lot to do with it too. While her physical freedom and security was dependent on this place, he was the one setting her soul free, untangling the web of doubts and insecurity that had held her mind for years.

She was soaring, floating through her days, absorbing her new surroundings, relishing the feeling that not only did she matter, not only was she desirable and had worth again, but a heavy warm blanket of peace and tranquility surrounded her. And then the facebook message that would shattered it all, pinged on her laptop.
